St. Paul resident Lenny Anderson said the city continues to harass him — most recently last week, when it had four trailers towed off his property.
For more than two decades, Anderson's nearly 3-acre property in the Highwood Hills neighborhood has drawn the city's attention for what it says are illegally stored items, from scraps of wood to boats and trailers.
In September, the city cleaned up Anderson's lot at 559 S. McKnight Road, destroying lumber, boats, trailers and other items valued at $75,000 to $100,000, according to Anderson's attorney. Anderson questioned why it had to be trashed rather than hauled to the impound lot.
"It's just that the city has nothing better to do than give people grief and trouble," Anderson, 70, said Wednesday.
Angie Wiese, spokeswoman for the city's Department of Safety and Inspections, said Anderson is not being singled out.
"We're responding to the complaints that we've been receiving, and it's our duty to do that," she said. "We don't go out there looking for things to take from his property."
The latest complaint came Nov. 12, Wiese said. The name of the person who complained is not public, Wiese said, but he or she reported Anderson was "moving junk he stored at another property back to his yard," she said.
Anderson is convinced that a relative with whom he doesn't get along complained to the city about him last month. However, the family member denied doing so in an interview with the Pioneer
