Property rights have been under attack for many Americans since 2005, when a divided U.S. Supreme Court in 2005 gave city governments the authority to take private homes and businesses by eminent domain and transfer ownership to private developers for the purpose of building things like shopping centers, corporate office towers and professional sports arenas. We, quite frankly, need to raise awareness about these abuses of government power.

It is with this in mind that I’d like to invite you to the world premier of the documentary Begging for Billionaires, which will kick of the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival’s “Best of Fest” week. The screening is 3 p.m., Saturday May 2, at the Oak Street Cinema, 309 Oak St. SE in Minneapolis, MN.

The film—through a mix of guerrilla journalism, expert interviews, and the stories of victims—exposes how city governments have brazenly seized property after property from the powerless and given it to the powerful for non-essential “economic development” projects, many of which are subsidized with taxpayer money.
