ANOTHER TRAFFIC COURT GUILTY PLEA IN FEDERAL COURT


NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - ALFRED MILLER, age 55, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, who was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for Conspiracy to Commit Computer Fraud in connection with a ticket fixing scheme at New Orleans Traffic Court pleaded guilty today before U. S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.


According to court documents, approximately five years ago, David “Doc” Williams and ALFRED MILLER entered into an agreement whereby MILLER would accept cash bribes from friends and colleagues charged with Traffic Court violations which MILLER would split with Williams in exchange for Williams using his position as Clerk in Section B at New Orleans Traffic Court to dismiss the pending violations.


In one instance, on February 5, 2007, defendant ALFRED MILLER, agreed to have two traffic violations (one for excessive speeding and the other for no proof of insurance) dismissed in exchange for approximately $300. Subsequently on February 27, 2007, defendant ALFRED MILLER, contacted David Williams who agreed to dismiss the Traffic Court Case in exchange for a cash bribe. That same day, Williams had the New Orleans Traffic Court Case dismissed and provided MILLER with a one page document entitled “Nolle Prosequi” signed by a Deputy Clerk as proof that the case was dismissed. In exchange, MILLER paid Williams approximately $100.00 for having the case dismissed. As part of his plea agreement, MILLER will provide truthful cooperation and testimony for the United States.


MILLER’S indictment brings to fourteen (14) the total number of individuals indicted thus far in the Orleans Parish Traffic Court investigation. To date, thirteen (13) have been convicted.


MILLER’S co-defendant, David “Doc” Williams is scheduled for trial in U. S. District Court on September 4, 2007.


ALFRED MILLER faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing is this matter is scheduled for November 6, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. before U. S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey.


The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U. S. Attorney’s Office based on complaints from the Metropolitan Crime Commission. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U. S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.
